Diamond Brand has been the main financial contributor to this film, and more importantly, Ross and James at the Asheville store have been huge morale boosters and friends throughout work on this project. So it's very fitting that we'll hold the premiere at the store, and it should be quite the party.

Doors will officially open at 7:00PM, and we'll get the movie rolling at dark, around 7:45. The Riot Team is hosting karaoke (with prizes) after the flick; so please bring the beverages necessary to lubricate your vocal chords and social confidence. The event is free, and lots of movie stars and beautiful people will be there. Come on out and help make this a bash to remember.

Also, don't forget that the Green Season Attainments Race is happening next Friday the 12th at 5:00PM at the Ledges. Diamond Brand is hosting that event too and will be ponying up some nice prizes. This is a great opportunity for trash talk and sabotage leading up to the Big Event on November 3rd, and the drought is no obstacle as there is still plenty of current to attain against. I've already seen a few Green Racers out there working hard to condition, and I think we'll have some burly-fun competition next Friday.

Hope to see you out there,
CG

Diamond Brand Outdoors, Asheville
172 Charlotte St.
Asheville, NC 28801
828-251-4668

That's a wrap . . .

Editing has kept me too busy to add anything to the blog over the past month, but on this past Tuesday I shipped out the DVD Master of "The Green Race Movie" for replication. Hopefully, I will now have a more sane daily schedule and will be able to make regular updates here.
The past few weeks have seen many developments that I'm excited to share with you, starting with the announcement of the "Green Season Attainments Race" (or G-SAt for those of you who like standardized testing acronyms). Effort Inc. and HorizonLine are partnering with Diamondbrand Outdoors to host a fun-filled event in the paddling season leading up to our beloved Green Race. The G-SAt race will be held on October 12th at high evening (5:00PM) and will be a great opportunity for you to come out with friends and spark some trash talk before the Green Race. The first attainments race (held this past spring) was attended by pro-paddlers and weekend warriors alike, and it boasted some killer prizes provided by Diamond Brand (can you say carbon-shaft, AT paddle and Osprey backpack? Woo-hoo!). So come out and help us make this next race a great event.
Furthermore, I'm happy to announce that The Green Race Movie and The Green River Narrows Poster are now on sale through the Effort TV website (http://www.effort.tv/store.htm). Buy them together on Effort.tv to get a cool discount.
For my own part, I think the poster is a seriously awesome piece of Green River art, and I can't wait to lay my hands on several copies. Call me biased, but take a look for yourselves as well (www.effort.tv/home.htm). This poster is built on a unique aerial photograph of the Monster Mile of the Narrows which is presented underneath multiple paddling stills that show the major rapids on the Green. Just to show you how good it is, here are a few of the B-photos that didn't make the final cut:

Coaplen getting his groove on

More E. But when July 25th dawned with the good news that the Green was running 100%, I gladly left my computer and booked it to Fishtop where I met Spencer, Dylan, Nathan, Jesse, and Andy. We had three goals for the day: get photography for the Green River Poster that Spencer is working on, nab some final shots for the Movie, and slake our parched boater-brains with some quality whitewater. Spencer and I had also been talking over a couple of side projects: running the Nutcracker for Spence, and getting into the Birthday Eddy for me. We left those decisions for on the river.

The level was as low as I've ever seen it at 100% (between 6 and 6.5 on the gauge), but we weren't complaining. This is why we love the Green--when all other rivers are bone dry we get to go class 5 creeking. Our journey down to Gorilla was slow, with much stopping for photog/video and much down-time in which to reconsider the Birthday Eddy. When we got to the 'rilla, it was looking nice and sketchy. The pad was beginning to break into a surging wave-hole, and in the time that we stood considering it, several intrepid boaters got kicked by the lip and had harrowing (but fortunately safe) lines through the flume. Nathan, Dylan, and Jesse ran it while Spencer and I filmed, and then I swallowed deep and told the guys I was going to go for the Eddy. It seemed like a good day to take on this challenge with such a large and competent group there watching my back. I was full of nerves but had a gut feeling that it was a good day to test myself.
Sitting below Pencil Sharpener, I wasn't so much concerned about getting into the Eddy. It was the getting out part, and the lining up for that breaking pad that had me worried. Here's a stills sequence of how it went (thanks to Andy Gates for the great pics):

I had a good line, and once I'd punched the speedtrap and caught my breath, I hollered a couple times real loud. Thanks again to all the friends who set safety and held cameras.

The rest of the day went very well. We looked at Nutcracker for a while, but finally decided to leave it for another trip. I messed up my line at Sunshine and ran the bottom ledge upside down (the Green keeping me humble). Spencer took some awesome shots for the poster, and I got all of the video that I'd hoped for. It was a great time, and we wrapped up the day with a celebratory feast at Green River Barbeque--expensive, but gooood! Enjoy some more pics from our adventure:

Spencer getting some Sun

Nathan setting up for the "Sils-launch"

Jesse attacking the pad

Dylan rehydrating

Thanks again, Andy Gates, for all the sweet pics.

mmmmm, Chris G.

Spencer Cooke photo
